August 2010

Gwen Black - Lochside Forest I am sure everyone who mixes within the art circles of the Highlands will have heard the sad news that Inchmore Gallery will close at the end of July. Gwen is off to pastures new (and a good a deal hotter!). She will be sadly missed. I am sure you will all join me in wishing her good luck with her new ventures.

To mark this event Beauly Gallery are hosting a Farewell Exhibition, running through August, featuring a large selection of Gwen Black's unique and diverse work. A professional member of the Aberdeen Artists Society and member of The Society of Scottish Artists, she was a pivotal force in setting up the Highlands Open Studios artists' collective.

Gwen exhibits her work extensively, venues include Peacock Visual Arts (Aberdeen), Grampian Hospital Arts Trust, The Art Institute of Seattle (USA), Aberdeen Art Gallery, Paisley Art Institute and the RSA Edinburgh. She also has work nationally and internationally in private and public collections.

"Because my discipline within fine art is printmaking, I naturally use a lot of printmaking techniques in my work, but I also incorporate paint and collage. My subject matter varies as I like to keep my work lively, fresh and interesting. I often work in a minimalist and monochromatic way, though strong colour and form are more integral to my overall approach. While dimensions may vary from almost miniature to expansive canvases, surface texture and mark making are always key."

September 2010

Theresa Brown - Silver Laced Wyandotte September continues with our main exhibition featuring Gwen Black and Sila Collins-Walden. Sila, has been very busy working on new paintings over at The Moray Art Centre, Findhorn. She has recently been developing her style and experimenting with new techniques.

Sila's works will be exhibiting during August & September.

Theresa Brown will be showing new works heavily influenced by the farming community surrounding her Black Isle home. Her main intention has always been to capture the character of her subject or the mood of a scene and she achieves this through a variety of techniques and media, such as: lino printing, photography, pastels, acrylics, inks and mixed media.

Theresa has recently extended her range of popular lino prints, available framed or unframed, and also has an extensive selection of artist cards.

All are available in-store now.
